Why do you not have XP embedded clients in your product line ?
First we would like to say this : XP and Vista are both very good Workstation Operating systems, with a reasonable amount of security , flexibility , expansion posibilities etc. It has beed designed for WORKSTATIONS and not to Thin Clients .. XP was build BIG and is BIG and seem to continue as BIG.
When we say BIG , we mean manny capabilities ,and as a result complex , hard to configure , and a easy target for hackers and virus writers. When XP is BIG and built
as a multipurpose OS we would like to surgest, people to use it with hardware designed for just that .. a PC .. not a thin client.
We admit there are certain advantages using a XPe based client , but they are few compared to the disadvantages.. so if you really need a XP for your client.. buy a PC , it faster , easier to maintain and is not a stripped down version that only supports half of what you think it does.
Thin clients are designed to do simple jobs,- like connecting to a server and be simple to maintain and service. XP workstation are designed to be big and sophisticated machines , do complex jobs , and in today’s world do everything from, sending a mail, to super complex CAD/CAM and mathematical calculations… Just using it for connecting to a terminal server .. is kind of a overkill. It is like everyday in out life , the right tool for the right job.. XP for PCs , Linux for terminals .
if you have already made the “mistake” and have purchased some XPe based terminals and would like to change direction, we will happely help you to convert them back to linux by selling to a competitive upgrade at 50% of the standard price.
If you still want the XP solution because you have a program or two you want to run locally as terminal server/Citrix doesn’t support it . You should consider VDI , virtual desktop infrastructure where PC’s are emulated inside a (Xen or WMware )machine.. the virtual PC can then be accessed from a thin Linux client, making security , power use , backup etc completely painless.
